Flags Fly at Half-Staff Around California in Honor of Fallen CHP Officer

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Flags are flying at half-staff Tuesday around the state in honor of Fallen CHP Officer Andre Moye.

The 33-year-old was killed Monday in the line of duty in Riverside County.

49-year-old Aaron Luther allegedly shot the CHP officer and wounded two other officers during a gun battle on the 215 Freeway near Los Angeles.

Moye died from his injuries following the traffic stop at around 5:37 p.m. on August 12.

Luther has been identified as a member of the Vagos Motorcycle Gang with a long criminal record.

Officers said he was driving a pickup truck, when during a traffic stop, they said he reached into the back for a rifle and opened fire.

During the shoot-out, Moye was struck but still able to call for back-up.

A “long and horrific gun battle” ensued with officers returning fire, and killing Luther as motorists ran for cover.

“The one officer is still in critical condition, and the other one is in a less serious condition, both struck by gunfire, but we believe the injuries are non life threatening,” said Officer Ryan Railsback with the Riverside Police Department.

Authorities have not determined a motive in the shooting.
