Another Legal Challenge to CA’s Presidential Tax Return Law

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The Trump Campaign and the Republican Party became the latest to file a lawsuit on Tuesday, challenging California’s new law requiring that presidential candidates release 5 years of tax returns, at least 98 days prior to the primary election.

The lawsuits argue that the law violates the U.S. Constitution, by creating an additional requirement to run for president, and disenfranchises voters, by denying them an opportunity to vote for their chosen candidate.

Late last week, the conservative group Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit, on grounds that the law violates the 1st and 14th Amendments.

The suit lists four California voters as plaintiffs, including two registered Republicans, one Democrat, and one Independent.
