FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Four California voters are going to court, in an effort to block a new state law that’s aimed at forcing President Donald Trump, to release his personal income tax returns.
Governor Gavin Newsom signed the law last week, requiring that presidential candidates file five years of their income tax returns with the California Secretary of State, at least 98 days prior to the primary election.
Candidates who don’t, won’t appear on the ballot.
Now, the conservative group Judicial Watch has filed a lawsuit, challenging the mandate on grounds that it violates the 1st and 14th amendments to the U.S. Constitution.
The lawsuit lists four California voters as plaintiffs, including two registered Republicans, one Democrat, and one Independent.
