Health Department: CA Vaccination Rates Down Again

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The vaccination rate among California kindergarten students is down again, as more parents have sought medical exemptions for their children.

New figures from the Department of Public Health show that more than 4,800 kindergartners had a medical exemption last school year; it marks a 70 percent increase in the 2 years since personal belief exemptions were done away with.

The data also shows that exemptions are being granted in affluent regions of California.

The debate over mandatory vaccinations for public school students continues, as state lawmakers seek to crack down on doctors granting fraudulent exemptions.
