Gov. Newsom Unveils $24B Wildfire Plan

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed a $24 billion package Friday, in an effort to cover the costs of future wildfires in California.

Newsom’s plan includes the creation of a $21 billion fund, as well as a requirement that PG&E, So Cal Edison, and San Diego Gas and Electric pay $3 billion into an “insurance fund.”

However, consumer advocacy groups are already expressing skepticism, as ratepayers will likely continue to bear the costs of utilities’ liabilities.
