FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Valley Congressman Devin Nunes filed a lawsuit against Twitter on Monday.

Republican Nunes alleges defamation of him and other conservatives.

His lawsuit seeks $250 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages.

Nunes accuses twitter of “shadow-banning” making his tweets invisible to all but diligent users over his complaints about a political strategist and two fake accounts.

In a statement sent to KMJ News, Nunes’ Counsel Steven Bis says “Twitter is a machine. It is a modern-day Tammany Hall. Congressman Nunes intends to hold Twitter fully accountable for its abusive behavior and misconduct.””

Federal law usually exempts social media platforms from facing charges of defamation, but Nunes argues that because Twitter actively curates the content on its site, it should be held accountable for defamatory content.
