Legal Battle Continues Over California’s Sanctuary State Law

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Immigrant rights activists have filed an appeal, following a judge’s ruling that Huntington Beach isn’t bound by California’s sanctuary policies, which limit local law enforcement’s cooperation with ice.

The Southern California city went to court over the highly contentious policies, and an Orange County judge ruled that municipalities with their own charters have a greater degree of autonomy.

California passed the law after the Trump Administration vowed to ramp up deportations.

Residents in Los Alamitos have also been involved in the litigation.
