Calif. DMV Director to Retire Amid Calls for Her Resignation

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — 38-year veteran state employee Jean Shiomoto is now set to retire as director of the Department of Motor Vehicles, amid calls for her to resign.

Shiomoto has been under fire, as the DMV has been the subject of multiple controversies, including improperly registering thousands of people to vote.

Shiomoto is scheduled to have a retirement dinner in Sacramento next month, celebrating her decades of state employment.

Governor Jerry Brown has designated Bill Davidson as acting director.

Davidson has served as the DMV’s chief deputy director since 2016, and has worked at the agency for 16 years.
