FRESNO, (KMJ) – United Airlines will be increasing service from Fresno to Chicago.

The first direct flights from Fresno Yosemite International Airport to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport over the summer were so popular that the airline will be ramping-up the service in 2019.

United plans to resume the direct flights earlier, said Kevin Meikle, Fresno’s director of aviation.

Instead of offering flights from June to September as it did this year, flights will be starting March 31.

The times of the flights, generally about 10:15 p.m. and departing back to Chicago at 11 p.m. will most likely stay the same.

More seats will be available on the daily flights, said Meikle.

“I think for all of us, the hope is to make it a permanent, year-round service, and if the trend continues how it’s been to this point, I’m confident it will be a permanent, year-round service,” Miekle said.

United Airlines will replace the current 76-seat Embraer E175 jets next year with 124-seat Airbus A319s.
