Retired Fresno Police Captain Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Fresno police were called to a home on Moody and Fuller Streets, near Woodward Park, around 11:30 Monday morning, where a woman said her husband was trying to kill himself, and was armed with a knife.

When police arrived, the man charged at them with the weapon.

Chief Jerry Dyer said he turned out to be, “I’m sad to say, a former police captain with the Fresno Police Department, 63-year-old Marty West, who’s been a longtime friend of mine, and a family member, I might add.”

After retiring from Fresno PD, West became the chief of Oakdale PD for 5 years.

Investigators say West had been suffering from metal health issues.
