Suspect Shot By Police Outside Mother’s Northeast Fresno Home

FRESNO (KMJ) — A suspect is in a stable condition in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting in Northeast Fresno. Police were alerted at around 1.20am, after dispatch received a 911 call from a woman about her brother who was possibly armed and suicidal.

Dispatch relayed to officers that the suspect, identified as Patrick William Brown of Fresno, was likely heading to his mother’s home. His pickup truck was tracked, and was later seen pulling into his mother’s driveway close to Portland and Sierra Vista Avenues.

“Officers were able to see him, the subject, go inside of the house, come out of the house, then get inside of the pickup, and go back in the house, and he did that several times,” revealed Chief Jerry Dyer.

Speaking to the media at the scene, hours after the incident unfolded Thursday morning, Chief Dyer said it looked like the 38 year old had picked up something from the truck and that it was likely a firearm.

“The officers who were outside heard what appeared to be someone forcing entry into a door, and at that point saw the individual come back outside. He was armed with a handgun and turned towards one of the officers to the east.

“The officer yelled for the individual to drop the handgun and, at one point, fired a rifle at the subject several times, striking him in the arm.”

Brown was taken to the hospital and is described as being in a stable condition being treated for two wounds: one to his shoulder and one to his arm. One officer has been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing. Fresno Police confirmed that investigators are seeking charges against Brown for felony brandishing of a firearm in the presence of a Peace Officer.
