FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A 23-year-old Fresno man is killed by a train over the weekend, after a very public prior run-in with the law.

“There was a collision at Blackstone and McKinley Sunday afternoon (September 30) involving a train and a person near the tracks,” said Fresno County Sheriff’s Spokesperson Tony Botti.

Tony Botti, the spokesperson for the Fresno County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office says the victim was familiar to Fresno law enforcement.

“Our Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the identify of the young man is 23-year-old Aldolfo Lopez of Fresno,” said Botti.

Aldolfo Lopez was the person who was arrested by Fresno police back on September 6, 2018, for jumping on a patrol SUV outside Fresno County Superior Court, in downtown Fresno.

Lopez was stomping on the vehicle, and smashing out the windshield, causing thousands of dollars of damage in the process.

The crime made national news.

Police Lieutenant Mark Hudson speaking on that day,” the crisis negotiators were unable to get him off the top of the vehicle, which led to officers getting on the hood of the vehicle, then on top of the vehicle where they were able to push him down to other officers waiting on the ground.”

When Lopez was finally overcome, he was taken to the hospital, then locked up, but was out on bond awaiting criminal charges for both felony resisting arrest and felony vandalism.

On Sunday, he ended up underneath a freight train.

“Right now, this case is being investigated as a suicide,” said Fresno County Sheriff’s Spokesperson Tony Botti.

Lopez’s death begs the question; “Was he getting the help he needed?”
