Fresno’s Immigrant Integration Ranks High On National Survey

FRESNO (KMJ) — A national analysis of city policy and socioeconomic factors has placed Fresno at number 35 of the country’s 100 largest cities, with specific praise going to government inclusivity.

The National American Economy survey considered areas such as whether or not immigrants have access to legal support, how many are homeowners, and individual income.

“I think that we should celebrate this ranking and what the study shows,” said Council President Esmeralda Soria.

“I think if we look at specific things that the City of Fresno has done, if you just look at our city agenda that we post on a weekly basis…you can see that they are translated in Spanish and Hmong.

“So we are making City Hall accessible to all.”

Soria described the New American Economy as a bipartisan research and advocacy organization, pushing for improved immigration policies.

The national survey ranked the City of Bakersfield at number 48 and the City of Irvine at 32. The highest California city was Chula Visa at number 3.
