CA Lawmakers Set to Take Final Vote on Bill to Combat Fake News

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — California lawmakers are set to take a final vote this week, on a measure aiming to combat the rise of fake news stories online.

The bill would bolster media literacy courses in public schools.

Supports say helping young people succeed in the age of digital media is essential to democracy.

A recent Stanford study found that 82 percent of middle school students struggle to distinguish advertisements from legitimate news articles.

The bill is scheduled for a final vote in the senate this week; if approved, it heads to the governor’s desk.
