Study Claims Climate Change Will Severely Increase CA’s Wildfire Risk

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The acreage of land consumed by wildfires is set to rise by 77 percent a year, by the end of the century.

That’s among the claims made in the 4th annual Climate Change Assessment, released by California state officials.

Researchers believe more aggressive forest management would soften the impact of climate change on wildfire risk, but it would not combat it entirely.

The study comes amid a growing debate over logging, to which environmentalists remain strongly opposed.

However, the legislature is considering easing restrictions on logging large trees on private property, and giving landowners more freedom to build temporary roads, which would made logging operations easier.
