5 People Killed, Including 2 Children, in Deadly Big Rig Accidents On I-5

 

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Five people were killed, including two Children, in deadly accidents on I-5.

Just after 2:00a.m. a man and two girls were killed in a crash near Los Banos Tuesday morning on Interstate 5 at Taglio Road..

Original reports incorrectly stated the the driver killed was a female.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Dodge Caravan was slowing down for a crash.

They say the driver of a big rig, 56-year-old Brauliao Martinez, did not slow down and rammed into the back of the van. He was not hurt.

CHP says the impact killed the driver of the van, a 57-year-old man, and two girls, a 10-year-old and a 6-year-old, whose twin survived and was flown to a children’s hospital in critical condition.

The front passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver and children were all from Covina and the adult passenger is from Ontario.

Alcohol and/or drugs, and weather conditions do not appear to have been a factor in this collision.

This cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The driver of the big rig was not hurt.

Another deadly crash happened Tuesday morning just down Interstate 5 near Shields Avenue.

CHP says two big rigs were slowing down for a construction zone, but a third big rig did not, and slammed into the back of one, which forced it into the other.

The man driving the big rig who didn’t slow down died at the scene, as did a woman passenger in his truck.

The other truck drivers were not injured

Alcohol and/or drugs, and weather conditions do not appear to have been a factor in this collision.

This cause of the crash is still under investigation.
