Procession Held For Fallen Cal Fire Fighter

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The body of Cal-Fire’S HFEO Braden Varney, killed Saturday fighting the Ferguson Fire, has been recovered.

Mariposa – Cal Fire had the assistance of California Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 5 to make the recovery of the CAL FIRE Heavy Fire Equipment Operator (HFEO).

The next phase was the escort of HFEO Braden Varney to the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

Members of the public who wished to pay respects to HFEO Varney while he was escorted, were welcomed to line the travel route.

The procession started at 3:00 PM Monday at the intersection of Highway 49 South and Darrah Rd.

HFEO Braden Varney was tragically killed on July 14, 2018 while assigned to the Ferguson Fire on the Sierra National Forest.

He leaves behind a wife and two small children.

Cal-Fire says please continue to keep Braden, his loved ones and all responders on the front lines in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to work under extremely challenging conditions.
