Nicholas Kauls Laid To Rest – Sheriff Says Search For Suspects Continues

FRESNO (KMJ) — Friends and family of Nicholas Kauls have said goodbye to him for the final time. The 17 year old died following an attempted robbery in Fresno’s Old Fig Garden, which sparked a massive search for those responsible.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held inside Fresno’s St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church Tuesday morning.

“It’s important for me to be here to support the family of Nick Kauls, and his mother, and our neighborhood, and the community,” explained Old Fig Garden resident Richard Caglia.

Caglia said the incident on June 24th has left locals on high alert.

“We’re a very close knit and tight neighborhood. Everybody’s very passionate about safety and protection. This is just another reminder that these things happen all the time and all over – it just normally doesn’t happen in our neighborhood.”

Fresno County Sheriff’s Office was responsible for investigating the incident, and ramped up efforts to find the suspects after the victim’s death on June 28th (click here to read more).

“One of the things that I’m letting friends and family know today is that we’re still on this,” revealed Sheriff Margaret Mims.

“We know that there are more people out there that our responsible. We might have gotten the person that pulled the trigger but we know that others are responsible because they were co-participants in this crime.

Sheriff Mims was among those attending the funeral, and had a warning for the other suspects involved in the shooting.

“For the rest of their lives, if we don’t catch them soon, they’re going to have to continually be looking over their shoulder because we’re going to be there.”

The Valley Crime Stoppers reward for information currently stands at $18,000. Anyone with a tip can call it in on (559) 498-STOP.
