FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – California Gubernatorial candidate John Cox promotes an effort to repeal California’s gas and car tax.

The gas tax has been a platform for the Republican candidate, and Cox, who is Chairman of the repeal campaign says its an unnecessary financial hardship.

“For the last 14 months, I have traveled all across this state and met so many working Californians who have to decide between buying groceries and filling their tank,” said Cox.

In a press conference Monday at the State Capital, prior to the joint committee hearing on the subject, Cox promised to repair roads but would not keep the 12 cent-per-gallon increase approved last year by the legislature and supported by his Democratic opponent Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom.

“Gavin Newsom and the Democrats decided to do the easy thing in their view and that is just keep sticking their hands in the pockets of Californians instead of doing the hard work which would have been standing up to the donors, standing up to the special interests, and using our money effectively and wisely,” said Cox.

The gas tax may be a factor for some when California voters choose the next governor on November 6th.
