Fresno Area Gangs Targeted By Multi-Agency Operation

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer held a press conference Tuesday, with results of a nearly month long operation targeting gangs.

During April, the task force was working to impact gang crimes in the Fresno metropolitan area, focusing on gang violence in all 5 Policing Districts which resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of firearms.

The joint effort included MAGEC, Fresno Police Department, Department of Homeland Security, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, Assistant U.S. Attorney’s Office, PD and HSI Gang Analysts.

Police say gangs in Fresno engage in a wide variety of violent and non-violent crimes, including homicides, shootings, human trafficking, rape, drug dealing, and various types of property/financial crimes.

“I am pleased to say as a result of our collective efforts, homicides in the city of Fresno have been reduced by 50 percent,” said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer. “24 murders last year at this time, compared to 12 murders at this time.”
