Visalia Man Will Spend Life In Prison For Killing Girlfriend’s Son

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A Visalia man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his girlfriend’s son.

The crime took place back on March 21st of 2013, when 34 year-old Trevor Jim Bishop was living with his girlfriend, and taking care of her two children; 3 year-old Jimmy Horton and another female toddler.

In a statement, the District Attorney for the County of Tulare, Tim Ward, says Bishop told authorities he found Jimmy unconscious in his bedroom, and took him to Kaweah Delta Urgent Care, where doctors discovered that Jimmy had severe bruising over his torso and genitals.

He never regained consciousness and was cared for by his father, until he died 11 months later.

At the trial, the DA’s Office says evidence showed a pattern of abuse – the child suffering blunt force trauma to the head and brain swelling.

On April 27, 2017, a Tulare County jury convicted Bishop of one count of second-degree murder and one felony count of assault on a child causing death.

On December 14th, in Tulare County Superior Court, Judge Joseph Kalashian sentenced Bishop to 25 years to life in prison.
