Yosemite Confirms Missing Hiker’s Remains Found In Park

YOSEMITE (KMJ) — Remains found in Yosemite National Park have been identified as those of Alexander Sevier.

The member of the U.S. Navy was last seen on May 3rd 2017, and traveled to California alone from his home in Virginia. He was known for taking hikes by himself and was reported missing when he both failed to check out of his cabin in Housekeeping Camp and did not board his flight back to the East Coast.

Park Rangers, along with search dogs and a CHP helicopter, then launched an extensive search (click here to read more).

“We did not get any indications of anything, any foul play, or anything out of the ordinary, other than the fact that he was supposed to check out of his cabin,” reveals the park’s Scott Gediman.

The remains were found on the banks of the Merced River, below Vernal Fall. DNA testing later confirmed that it was the missing hiker.

Sevier’s family has been notified.
