Kayaker Dies on Kings River-Fresno Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Team Responds

FRESNO , CA (KMJ) – A kayaker is dead, after an incident Thursday on the Kings River.

Three people were kayaking on the river when tragedy struck just before 9:00am, and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office got a GPS alert.

“Basically they had some sort of an emergency device that send some sort of message that they need help. We got out there… Search and Rescue Team got out there after leaning that one of the kayakers fell out and had been washed downstream.” -Fresno Sheriff’s Spokesperson Tony Botti.

Fresno Sheriff’s Spokesperson Tony Botti says the S.A.R. team, and a helicopter were working in an area called Yucca Point, Northeast of Hume Lake, to make the recovery.

“After searching for them is when we discovered they were deceased.” – Tony Botti, FSO Spokeperson.

The name of the victim has not been released.
