Small Electrical Fire at Fresno Airport Extinguished

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – An electrical fire broke out Friday afternoon at Fresno Yosemite International Airport – in an air traffic control tower.  Fresno Fire says around 12:45pm, crews were alerted to a fire in an electrical closet.  Power was shut off in the one isolated area where the blaze broke out.

Fire Captain Kris Townsend says crews evacuated personnel where the fire broke out.  “[The fire] did not extend anywhere [beyond the closet],” said Townsend. “The power is back up and running. Aircrafts did not stop or get diverted.”  Two air traffic controllers were able to continue the guiding of flights as the fire was extinguished.

Fresno Fire says there were no reported injuries.
