Survey: Consumers Seek Healthier Options in Supermarkets

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — A new survey finds that 79 percent of adults believe supermarkets should make healthier foods easier to access.

According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a healthy checkout line — one free of chips, soda, and candy, could be a successful means of accomplishing that.

51 percent percent of those surveyed said they’d recently purchased junk food on their way out the store, and 75 percent of them said they regretted it.

Experts say it remains to be seen whether stores will make such changes, given the risk removing the popular foods poses to profits.
