Fresno State Named One of Nation’s Top Universities

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Fresno State was just named one of the best universities in the nation, in a new ranking by “Washington Monthly”. California State University, Fresno was ranked 25th in the magazine’s “Top 30 National Universities”. Last year, the Bulldogs ranked 52nd.

In Washington Monthly’s report, Fresno State was commended for being affordable, having a high graduation rate and for its emphasis on community service. Fresno State spends 59% of its federal work study on public service – which is more than any other university in the country.

“I’m so proud of everyone (at Fresno State) – the students, the staff, the alumni,” said university President Joseph Castro at a press conference on Monday, discussing the ranking. “It takes teamwork to experience success like that this. I feel at the same time our trajectory is going upward, so there’s even greater success coming in the future.”

It was also noted in the rankings that half of Fresno State’s undergrads are first-generation college students. You can see the full ranking here.

Fresno Pacific was also honored by Washington Monthly, ranked 18th “Best Bang For Your Buck” university in the western region.
