FRESNO (KMJ) – Senator Barbara Boxer was speaking in Fresno at the National Women’s Political Caucus Equality Day Luncheon on Thursday, August 25th .

Mostly women and a few men were at the lunch at Tornino’s in North Fresno, including Karen Humphrey, the former Mayor of Fresno, and Fresno City Councilmember Esmeralda Soria as the Democratic Senator spoke to the non-partisan NWPC group about the progress of women’s representation in public office.

BOXER LUNCH

Boxer focused on a need to support strong women in office and a push for more equal pay during her casually formatted Q & A session with Delaine Eastin, the only woman elected as California Superintendent of Public Instruction.

When Senator Boxer started back in the Senate only 2% of the members were women, and now, she says it’s 20% female, but it’s not enough and she stressed the need for change. Boxer encouraged women in the audience to run for office as she, herself, was elected by a non-partisan vote.

“I know the people of this great nation understand that we do better when we work together, so I’m proud of Hillary Clinton’s slogan which is ‘Stronger Together’ and we know we are. It doesn’t mean we have to agree all the time.” – Senator Barbara Boxer (D).

Boxer commented to a media question afterward about Presidential Democratic Candidate Hillary Clinton’s health, and the allegation by the Trump Campaign that she is not well.

“It’s a sick joke from a man who put out a letter about his own health that was signed by some doctor who has not had any affiliation with a hospital for years.” — Senator Barbara Boxer (D).

When her term is over, Boxer says she plans to stay vocal about her causes, and will tour with her book The Art of Tough.”
